Retraction procedure (withdrawal of articles)
Article retraction is an official withdrawal (cancellation) of an already published scientific article. Retraction is used to correct published information and notify readers that the published scientific article contains serious shortcomings or erroneous data that cannot be trusted. Inaccurate information and data may be provided as a result of accidental technical errors or conscious violations of publication ethics by the author(s).
Article retraction may be applied:
- upon request of the authors to withdraw the article;
- by decision of the editorial board in case of violations of publication ethics and/or other significant shortcomings.
Article retraction may be carried out in the case of:
- errors made in the article;
- detected facts of plagiarism or incorrect borrowing of text, ideas, data or research results;
- lack of proper references to the original sources of data;
- re-publication of the same article in another publication without proper justification;
- inclusion of authors who did not make a significant scientific contribution to the research, or exclusion of authors who did make such a contribution;
- detection of an unfair review process, the presence of a conflict of interest that could have influenced or influenced the results of the research, etc.), which make it impossible to reliably use the results of such an article.
Procedure for retracting an article:
The decision on retraction is made by the editorial board of the journal upon submission by the editor-in-chief of the journal. The submission must state the grounds for retraction of the article. The decision on retraction of the article is made taking into account the author's response, which justifies his own position on the retraction of the article (provided that this response is received).
If the author (authors) consider it necessary to retract the article, they contact the editorial office, explaining the reasons for such a decision. The editorial office responds to the authors and, upon confirmation of the grounds for retraction, retracts the text of the article.
The editorial office may independently make a decision on retraction of the article on the basis of the examination conducted or information received by the editorial office. The author or a representative of the author's team is informed of this and a response is expected. The decision on retraction of the article is formalized in the minutes of the meeting of the editorial board of the journal. The minutes indicate the reason and date of retraction; in case of detection of plagiarism, the source of borrowing is indicated. The author (representative of the author team) is sent the minutes of the meeting of the editorial board of the journal with the wording justifying the reason for the retraction of the article.
Information about the retraction of the article is posted on the journal's website in the relevant issue. After the retraction, the article is stored in the archive of the scientific publication with a clear indication of the fact of its retraction.
The editorial board of the journal may decide to impose a ban on accepting for publication articles from the author of the retracted article for a certain period.
